Golden sandstone cliffs around a small cove on the Portuguese coast

The southwest coast of Portugal is one of the least built-up stretches of coastline in Europe. Most of it sits inside the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, so the cliffs, dunes and fishing villages look much as they did decades ago.

We host our retreats at a restored farmhouse a short walk from the cliff path. Mornings are often cool and bright, afternoons warm, and there is a beach within twenty minutes on foot in almost every direction.

Mild weather from autumn to spring, quiet beaches outside summer and the Fishermen's Trail on the doorstep make this our home for yoga, writing and rest weeks.

Questions about Costa Vicentina

Can I swim in the sea?

Yes, but the Atlantic here has strong currents. Only swim at lifeguarded beaches in season, and ask the team which beaches are calm that day.

Is there a pharmacy or shop nearby?

Vila Nova de Milfontes, 15 minutes by car, has pharmacies, supermarkets and an ATM. The team runs a shop trip on free afternoons.
