Upcoming dates

What is a small-group hiking retreat?

A SOLARA hiking retreat is a week of guided day hikes from one comfortable mountain hotel. On High Trails of the Dolomites you walk four routes of 10 to 16 km with 500 to 900 m of ascent, carry only a day pack, and end each day with stretching, a sauna and dinner. Groups are capped at 12.

Who it suits

  • You walk regularly and can hike 6 hours on consecutive days
  • You are comfortable on uneven, sometimes steep ground
  • You would rather return to the same hotel each night than carry a full pack
  • You like a qualified leader planning routes around the weather

Who it doesn't suit

  • You have a fear of heights on exposed paths
  • You have not hiked in mountains before and don't train beforehand

Level and fitness

Hiking weeks are listed as good fitness required. You should be able to walk 6 hours with 700 m of ascent and do it again the next day. Terrain includes rocky, steep sections but no climbing.

Questions

How fit do I need to be?

You should be able to walk 6 hours with 700 m of ascent and repeat it the next day. Summit day has a shorter 9 km option, and there is one rest day mid-week. Train beforehand with regular 4 to 6 hour walks with ascent, and call us if in doubt.

Why is the group capped at 12?

Twelve guests is what one mountain leader can safely look after on the trail. Sofia Brandt is an International Mountain Leader and Wilderness First Responder, and she chooses each route the evening before based on the forecast. A SOLARA host is also on site.

What does the hiking week cost?

High Trails of the Dolomites runs from 24 to 30 June 2027, six nights at Hotel Ciasa Lärch. The private double with balcony is €2,290; shared twins (€1,790) are taken. The deposit is €500, with the balance due 60 days before. Cable cars (around €40 in total) are extra.

Do I need special insurance or kit?

Yes. Travel insurance with mountain rescue cover is required. Bring worn-in boots with ankle support, a 25 to 30 litre day pack, waterproof jacket and trousers, a hat and gloves, and 1.5 litres of water capacity. It can be cold at altitude even in summer.
